Your data, in plain words.

Who we are

Kanakkedu is operated by [legal name of the business], [registered address], India ("we", "us"). For anything about your personal data, write to privacy@kanakkedu.online. This policy covers the website kanakkedu.online and the app at web.kanakkedu.online.

What we collect

• Account details: your name and email address, and any optional profile details you add (phone, business name, address, photo).
• Sign-in secrets: your password, PIN and recovery codes, stored only as one-way hashes, and the secret that links your authenticator app.
• Your records: books, entries, categories, parties, budgets, investments, savings goals, calendar events, subscriptions, renewal dates, money lent or borrowed, and receipts you upload. For bank accounts we keep the bank name, the last four digits and the balances you enter, never a full account number.
• Sharing: who you share a book with, their access level and the book's activity log. If you name a trusted contact, their email and the settings you choose.
• Help requests: what you write to us from Help & support, and our replies.
• Consent: the version of these terms and this policy you accepted, and when.
• Security records: sign-in times, IP address, browser and device type, failed attempts and other security events.
• Email records: for each email we send you, the address, subject and whether it was delivered, never the message body.

How we use it

• To run Kanakkedu for you: store your books, calculate totals, make reports, backups, reminders and summaries.
• To read receipts you ask us to scan. This runs on our own server; your receipt is not sent to any other company.
• To keep your account safe: verify sign-ins, stop repeated guessing, block automated sign-ups and investigate suspicious activity.
• To send service emails: sign-up codes, password resets, security notices, and the reminders and summaries you turn on.
• To answer you when you contact support.

We use your data on the basis of your consent, which you give when you create an account, and only for these purposes.

Who can see it

• You, and the people you share a book with, at the access level you choose (view, add entries, edit, or a child's pocket-money access).
• Your trusted contact, only if you name one, only after you have been inactive for the period you chose, and only after you have been emailed and had 7 days to stop it. They get view-only access to the Spend Books you chose, which you can end at any time.
• Kanakkedu support can see your account status (for example whether it is locked), counts and file sizes, and what you write in a help request. Support cannot see your amounts, balances, notes, bank details, or the names of your books, categories or parties.
• Service providers who run parts of Kanakkedu for us under contract: Amazon Web Services (servers, database and file storage), [email provider] (sending email) and Cloudflare (the "are you human" check on the sign-up and password-reset pages, which looks at your IP address and browser). They may only use your data to provide that service.
• Authorities, only when the law requires it.

Where it is kept

Your data is stored in India, in Amazon Web Services' Mumbai region. The database runs on encrypted disks, and receipts and backups are kept in encrypted, private storage that only the Kanakkedu app can read. All connections use HTTPS.

How long we keep it

• Your account and records stay while your account is open.
• Entries and books you delete stay in your recycle bin for 30 days so you can restore them, then they are removed.
• When you delete your account there is a 30-day grace period. After that, your account, records, receipts, help requests and saved backups are permanently deleted. Copies inside our own disaster-recovery backups expire within a further 35 days.
• Email delivery records are deleted after 30 days. Security records are kept for 1 year to protect accounts and investigate abuse.

Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can:

• Access and take your data: download all of it as one Excel file (Profile → Storage → Download all my data), export any book to CSV or Excel, download PDF statements, or download a full backup.
• Correct it: edit your profile and records at any time.
• Erase it: delete your account from Profile, or ask us to.
• Withdraw consent: by deleting your account. This does not affect what we lawfully did before.
• Nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or become unable to. You can also name a trusted contact in the app.
• Raise a grievance with our Grievance Officer, [name], at grievance@kanakkedu.online. We acknowledge within 2 working days and reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Cookies and tracking

This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. Its fonts are served from our own server. The Kanakkedu app keeps your sign-in and preferences, such as text size and light or dark mode, in your browser's own storage. It does not use advertising or tracking cookies. The sign-up and password-reset pages may load Cloudflare's check, which can set its own short-lived cookie to tell people from bots.

Children

Kanakkedu is for adults (18 and over). A child under 18 may use Kanakkedu only with a parent or guardian who agrees to it and supervises it, for example through a pocket-money book the parent creates and shares. The parent is responsible for that use and can remove the child's access at any time. We do not track children or use their data for anything other than the pocket-money book.

Changes and contact

Last updated: 16 October 2026. If we change this policy we will update the date here. If a change matters to how your data is used, we will ask you to accept it again in the app before it applies. Questions: privacy@kanakkedu.online.
